The same tool. A slave reads and writes and MMT tunes every file; it costs less and needs no tuning software. A master opens and saves every file for people who write their own maps. A slave can be upgraded to master later, one protocol group at a time.

What it is like after you buy
One tool, three ways in
KESS3 reads and writes by OBD, on the bench and in boot mode — what used to take two Alientech tools, KESS V2 for OBD and K-TAG for bench and boot. Engine ECUs and many gearbox controllers, through Alientech’s software on a Windows laptop.
Renewals
The first 12 months of updates come with every kit and protocol. After that the subscription is renewed yearly through your dealer — or your master, for a slave. Renew before it has been expired 60 days: after that Alientech adds a realignment fee.
Why an authorised dealer
Every tool is genuine, registered to you and activated by Alientech, with the warranty handled by us as your dealer. Clones cannot be registered, updated or supported — and a cloned tool can damage the ECU it writes.

How much is a KESS3 in the UK?
A complete KESS3 kit from MMT starts at £1,250: the tool, its cables and case, the protocols for one vehicle group and 12 months of Alientech updates. The price depends on the vehicles, the connection (OBD, or OBD with bench and boot) and whether it is a slave or a master. Every kit and its price is in the table on this page.
Why does a KESS3 not have one price?
Because the tool on its own does nothing: Alientech activates protocols on it, one group of vehicles and one way of connecting at a time, as a slave or a master. A kit is the tool plus the protocols you choose plus the subscription, so the price follows what you will tune.
Slave or master: which should I buy?
A slave reads and writes; its files are tuned by its master. Buy a slave from MMT and MMT tunes every file in house, so you need no tuning software or calibration skills, and the tool costs less. A master opens and saves every file and is for people who write their own maps. A slave can be upgraded to master later.
Can I buy the KESS3 tool on its own?
Yes. The KESS3 hardware with its cables and case is £756. It needs protocols before it can read a vehicle, which is why most people buy a kit.
Can I add bench and boot or another vehicle group later?
Yes. Protocols are added to the tool you already have; you do not buy a second KESS3. Send MMT your tool’s serial number and what you want to add, and we tell you the price.
What is the subscription?
Every kit includes 12 months of Alientech’s updates and new vehicles for the protocols on the tool. After that it is renewed each year to keep receiving them.
Is it genuine and registered to me?
Yes. MMT Performance is an authorised Alientech dealer: every tool is genuine, registered to you and activated by Alientech. We never sell clones.
